Spinning ThreadsThere’s a subtle balance to strike here. When a thread runs out of work — its local queue is empty, there’s nothing to steal — should it go to sleep immediately? If it does, and new work arrives a microsecond later, there’s nobody awake to pick it up. Another thread has to be woken from sleep, which costs time.
